Massage Therapy

Massage is the one of the most naturally healing things you can do. The nurturing touch is simple, instinctual, and more powerful than we can imagine. Some of the many studies on touch show conclusively that it reduces stress, alleviates depression, reduces pain, boosts the immune system, and helps pre-mature babies catch up in their development. massage increases the lubrication between muscle fibers and allows the muscle to move optimally.

Muscle fibers are designed to work independently of each other. When muscles dry out, or dehydrate, the fibers stick together and the muscle becomes stiff or ridged. As fluid is reintroduced, the muscle softens and regains its flexibility. As circulation increases between the muscle fibers, nutrients reach the cells and toxins are carried off more efficiently. Aging is largely a process of dehydration. The less water in the body, the more quickly we age. As we dehydrate, we begin to shrink and as our muscles become smaller, our skin begins to wrinkle. Drinking lots of water and having regular massage is a great way to get rid of wrinkles. Massage gives one a feeling of comfort and relaxation like a mini vacation from the pressures of life. A clinical study at the University of Miami School of Medicine, shows that massage increases mental alertness and accuracy in mathematical calculations.

Massage Procedures and Hints

  • Meet and Greet

Once you arrive at Scottsdale Chiropractic Wellness, our front desk will greet you and ask you to fill out a Wellness Chart. The Wellness Chart is where you record any medical history, past/present injuries and other physical conditions we should be made aware of. Your massage therapist will greet you and review the Wellness Chart with you. They will inquire about the reason(s) you are coming in for a massage, your current physical condition and any specific areas in which you are experiencing pain or would like to address during your massage.
  • Getting started with your therapist

Your massage therapist will take you to a peaceful treatment room where a comfortable massage table dressed with crisp clean sheets awaits. Your therapist will leave the room and wait outside while you disrobe to your level of comfort. Some clients prefer to completely disrobe, while some will remain partially clothed. Once disrobed, Please lie on the massage table, under the top sheet. Your massage therapist will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door to ask if you are ready before entering your room.
  • Massage Etiquette

You will always be draped with the top sheet during your massage session. Your massage therapist will only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times. You can expect a tranquil and comfortable environment during your massage. The massage table is padded and a heating blanket is placed beneath the sheet, which you can have adjusted to your preference. There will be relaxing music playing, unless you request otherwise, and the room should be quiet, with no outside distractions.
  • During your massage

Before beginning the session, your therapist will ask you to alert them if, at any time during the session, a technique or stroke they are using is uncomfortable. Depending on your specific needs or requests, your massage therapist will either perform a customized full-body massage (for general relaxation and stress reduction) or focus on the specific parts of your body that you have requested. We only use the highest quality hypoallergenic massage creams and lotions for your massage.
  • Ensuring your wellness

Once your massage therapy session is complete, your massage therapist will leave the room so you may re-dress. Your therapist will wait outside the room for you with a bottle of water, and then take you back to the front area when you’re ready. Our massage therapy sessions vary from 1-hour to 1 ½-hour to 2 hours in length. Each session includes a 5 minute pre-interview and 5 minutes at the end for you to re-dress.
  • Helpful Hints

    1) Plan Ahead: ~ It’s helpful to arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment. This will give you time to complete your paperwork and take a few minutes to relax and unwind. 2) Sound Advice: ~ Some people like to talk during a massage. Some prefer to relax without conversation. Do what feels best. We’ll follow your lead. 3) Communicate: ~ This is your customized massage. If you have feedback on pressure, room temperature, lighting… let us know. 4) Hydrate: ~ Water flushes out the minerals that were released during your massage while rehydrating your muscles and reducing potential soreness.

Your Comfort is important

We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know we are here to help.
